CHRISTMAS EVE WAFERS
FROM POLAND
„... There is a habit in my country,
that on the Christmas-Eve day,
when the first evening star appears in the sky,
people of the same house break the Biblical bread,
sharing the most precious feelings
in this bread embedded...“
C.K. Norwid
The „Christmas Wafer“ name comes from the Latin word „oblatum“ meaning the gift of sacrifice. Sharing bread in the form of wafers has been known since the beginning of the Church. Wafer shares the secret of the heart of little Jesus of the Bethlehem hut. It remains with each hand as the book of wisdom to teach the heart and to comfort the spirit. Wafer has become the Christmas symbol, and sharing it on the Christmas-Eve day is an expression of feelings, friendship and caring.
